Suspects detained over QQ swindling scam
Seven suspects have been detained for swindling 860,000 yuan (US$133,700) from a company in Shanghai’s Yangpu District through the QQ instant messaging service, police said today.
They contacted the company’s accountant via QQ for the money on July 6, police said.
The suspects were caught in Nanning City in Guangxi Province on August 3.
Officers added that the money had not been recovered.
The Shanghai Public Security Bureau said in May they had deployed some officers in Nanning to help local police investigate telephone scams.
Nanning is a city known to be a large source of telephone scams in Shanghai.
