Swiss Pavilion makes fix for chair lift safety
DATA cables for the Swiss Pavilion's chair lift will be replaced, the pavilion's management said yesterday as it reassured the public of the safety of its signature feature.
The chair lift has helped make the pavilion one of the World Expo's most popular attractions, but it has had to be temporarily suspended a few times for technical reasons. The latest halt came on Tuesday, International Children's Day.
Reporters from xinmin.cn recorded a video showing visitors on the chair lift stuck in the air on Tuesday, waiting for rescue from the pavilion staff.
They also reported how a mother of a two-year-old child was very concerned about her son's security while waiting down there. The child was up on the lift with his grandfather.
The staff was able to disembark all visitors from the chair lift in 30 minutes and fix the machine in an hour.
Yesterday, the pavilion said its technical team investigated the issue and discovered a signal transmission problem involving the data cable.
The pavilion decided to replace the existing data cables with new ones from Switzerland.
"The safety of our visitors has always been top priority at the Swiss Pavilion and management is doing its utmost to maintain these high standards while providing a pleasant experience for our guests," said Manuel Salchli, the pavilion's deputy commissioner general and director.
