TV show faxes bogus
THE popular Chinese TV talent show the Voice of China is warning its audience not to be taken in by bogus award invitations sent by fax using the program's name.
TV program official Lu Wei said they never organized such events and the invitations are frauds.
A Shanghai Daily reporter using a fax number and verification code to enter the scam prize website, www.k55.com.nu, found it to be an imitation of the website of the Voice of China with the same background, design and pictures.
The reporter was "awarded" a cash prize of 88,000 yuan (US$14,117) and an Apple laptop and was asked to fill in personal information such as name, address, ID Card number and bank account. It claimed the cash would be transferred via online banking and the laptop would be delivered.
