Tampered taxis

TAMPERED meters, lengthy detours and rejecting passengers are the top complaints concerning taxis in the city, according to the local taxi watchdog. The traffic law enforcement team said yesterday that 91 taxi drivers had their licenses suspended last year after they were discovered using tampered meters to cheat passengers. The figure, said officials, is alarming, as it is up 70 percent on 2010. Among those punished, 35 drivers were from city's "Big Five" taxi companies, said the team.
