Taxi driver in the dock for taking on cops

A taxi driver was detained yesterday for attacking two patrolling police officers with a knife and later tested positive for methamphetamine, police said last night.

The driver surnamed Wu, 40, was seen walking with a vegetable knife around 2:43pm and getting into a taxi parked on Wuding Road W. near Wanhangdu Road, Jing'an District.

He was stopped by police officers Jiang Hui and Zhao Yi.

Seeing the officers approaching him, Wu suddenly opened the taxi door and waved his knife toward Jiang and Zhao.

Wu then attacked the two officers but was outfought and handcuffed by them.

Wu attacked both the officers in their arms.

During investigation, Wu claimed he drove the taxi on Wuding Road W. and felt that someone was following him with the intention to kill.

He parked his car and came out with a knife.

The local driver also did not pass the urine test and tested positive for methamphetamine, police said.
