Taxi driver in transport card swap
A PASSENGER whose public transportation card was stolen by an illegal taxi driver finally got his money back yesterday thanks to the Shanghai Transport Commission.
The man, Zhang, hailed a taxi around midnight on May 1 and used his card to pay the fare. But on May 6, as Zhang was getting on a bus, he found the balance on the card he had was zero.
Zhang recalled that on April 30, there had been a balance of 644 yuan (US$93), and called the card company.
The number on the card Zhang had tried to use did not match his receipt. He realized his card had been swapped and reported the matter on May 7.
Officers pulled CCTV footage and found a taxi with plate FN1498 belonging to taxi firm Falanhong. Further investigation showed it was an illegal taxi.
After tracking and investigation, law enforcement officers found the illegal taxi driver in Caolu Town in Pudong.
The driver, Yin, admitted he had swapped Zhang鈥檚 card but had sold it already. Yin鈥檚 car was seized, he was fined 50,000 yuan and all 12 points on his driver鈥檚 license were deducted.
The police are looking into whether Yin got the plate from a retired taxi or simply forged it. He will face more charges if the plate is shown to have been forged, police said.
