SEVENTEEN programs won the first revolutionary technology innovation competition organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the university announced on Tuesday.
Aimed at inspiring creativity and exploratory thinking, the competition received more than 3,000 entries from its students, teachers and science enthusiasts from outside the university, covering advanced manufacture, new energy, Bio-X and other areas.
The winners included an English sophomore student at the university, who designed a pair of glasses with eye-tracking system and digital dictionary, which can translate English words in books.
A professor and a student from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering also won with their idea to solve the problems of carbon dioxide accumulation in the air and fossil fuels exhaustion. Their solution is to mock the hydrothermal conversion of biomass into fossil fuels in the earth crust to cut down the long natural process into a few hours so as to consume carbon dioxide and produce fossils fast.
The university will invite investors to review all the participating programs and provide more support to further develop those with market potential.
