Teen faces manslaughter case after smothering new son
A TEENAGER has been charged with manslaughter after suffocating her newborn son to death in a public toilet in Shanghai's Putuo District.
She said she tried to stop it crying to prevent others from knowing she was giving birth, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.
The girl, 17, unnamed in the report, said she got pregnant after being raped in October 2008.
To keep it a secret, she came to Shanghai to live with her parents and wore floppy clothes to hide her growing belly.
On August 27 last year, she gave birth to a boy and stuffed tissue in his mouth to stop him crying.
But a local resident overheard the cry and discovered the boy, who was pronounced dead after being sent to a hospital.
