Theft suspect's bomb threat in hospital

A SUSPECTED thief tried to evade capture by breaking into hospital rooms early yesterday, warning startled patients that he had a bomb.

Police said a man had been detained at a hospital at Shandong Road M., Huangpu District, after forcing his way into rooms.

Witnesses claimed the man had been chased to the hospital by nearby residents after being caught breaking into houses.

A patient surnamed Xiang in a gynecology room was awoken by a disturbance outside at 1am yesterday and heard a man saying he had a bomb, according to Xinmin Evening News. Xiang tried to lock the door and block it with a chair, but the man broke in. She pretended to be asleep, and after about a minute he left.

Witnesses said the man broke into two other rooms. He was eventually apprehended by a security guard.

No bomb was found.
