MORE than 2,000 tour guides good in 16 languages, including French, German and Spanish, will serve World Expo visitors, Shanghai tourism authorities said yesterday.
About one-third of them are from Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, said the Shanghai Tourism Administration.
Also yesterday, the city selected about 100 elite tour guides to mainly escort distinguished guests during the Expo. They are described as "active, skillful and warm-hearted" and speak good English or Japanese. Most work for major scenic spots in the city or won awards.
