Three foreigners injured in 3-car clash

THREE of four foreign passengers in a taxi were injured in a traffic accident involving three vehicles early today on the Nanpu Bridge.

The injured passengers were rushed to the No. 9 People's Hospital, where doctors said they were in a stable condition.

The vehicles' drivers were all safe, today's Xinmin Evening News reported.

A Sri Lankan man sustained head injuries needing stitches and another man and a woman suffered light injuries.

The passengers, all airline staff, arrived in Shanghai some days ago from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, the newspaper said, and were traveling from Pudong to Puxi to visit downtown pubs.

Their cab was hit head-on by a private car while traveling across the Huangpu River. The car was unable to brake immediately after the crash and continued on to hit a Buick business van.

The cab's hood was crushed and the other car was almost totally destroyed. The Buick suffered scratches.

Police took the private car's driver for questioning after finding he was driving unlicensed.
