Three major Metro stations including the People’s Square stop to be closed for reconstruction around upcoming holiday

THREE major Metro stations in Shanghai will suspend operation for reconstruction purpose around the Spring Festival to relieve increasing traffic pressure and prepare for future capacity boost.
The affected stations are People's Square of Line 1 and 8, Zhangjiang High Technology Park of Line 2 and Shendu Highway of Line 8, the Metro operator said on Tuesday.
The renovations ranging from 15 to 28 days are selected around the festival to minimize impacts on commute need as the period usually sees the lowest traffic turnover in Metro network through a year.
The People's Square Station of Line 1 and 8 will be suspended from January 14 to February 10, and trains will not stop by during the 28-day renovation.
Operation of Line 2 at the station will not be affected, though passengers will not be able to transfer to Line 1 and 8 at People's Square during this period.
In addition, six of the station's total 18 exits will be temporarily closed (Exit 5, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20), and three exits (Exit 1, 2, 3) will only open for people to cross roads underground.
The Zhang Jiang High Technology Park station of Line 2 will suspend operation between January 21 and February 10. The station will be blocked and trains of Line 2 will skip it during the period.
A free shuttle bus service will be set up to ferry passengers between the station and its neighboring Metro stop, Jinke Road Station. The shuttle bus operates between 7am to 8pm every day, with an interval of one to three minutes during peak hours and eight to ten minutes in other period.
Shendu Highway Station of Line 8 will be closed from January 25 and February 8, where shuttle buses will also be arranged to ferry passengers traveling between the station and Lianhang Road Station, the next stop. Operating hours of the shuttle buses will be 5:15am to 10:15pm on Shendu Highway, and 5:20am to 11:40pm on Linhang Road.
