Three more days of air pollution for city before cold front helps on Sunday

SHANGHAI will see another three days of pollution before air quality improves on Sunday, said the environmental monitoring center.
The city’s air quality has been rated as moderately polluted since Wednesday morning with Air Quality Index reaching 163 at 11am. Tiny particle PM2.5 was the major pollutant. Districts of Xuhui, Yangpu, Putuo and the Pudong New Area all reported a PM2.5 density surpassing 140 micrograms per cubic meter around noon, near six times of World Health Organization’s limit.
“Thursday (air quality) will be worse. Due to lack of strong wind, the pollution will last for two to three days,” a staff at the center told Shanghai Daily. “The situation will be eased starting late Saturday, and locals can expect for some good air on Sunday.”
Shanghai will have another chilly day on Thursday though the highest temperature will rise slightly to 8 degrees Celsius from Wednesday’s 6, while the lowest would still be 1, according to Shanghai Meteorological Center.
Friday and Saturday are forecasted to be cloudy to overcast. Rain is expected to hit the city on Sunday, and a weak cold front will help improve the air quality for the Yangtze River Delta Region.
