Tighter checks on railway passengers

SHANGHAI railway police have implemented stricter security measures at the city’s three railway stations ahead of the coming political sessions next month in Beijing.

The 13th National People’s Congress and the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, also known as the “two sessions,” are scheduled to convene in March.

All personal belongings of passengers, especially liquids, will be checked, and travelers bound for Beijing will go through additional security checks from tomorrow, police said yesterday. Passengers are reminded to arrive at the railway stations earlier for the security checks.

More police officers will also be deployed on trains bound for Beijing to ensure fire safety as well as boosting security checks on suspicious people and objects and cracking down on crimes.

At Shanghai South Railway Station, armed railway police have started to patrol together with their colleagues from other departments.
