Tiny baby girl home at last

A premature baby girl born at only 545 grams, the lightest newborn the hospital has ever seen, has finally been discharged from Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, the hospital announced yesterday.
The girl, born during the 28th week of pregnancy, was delivered in mid-October. Her mother had previously suffered four miscarriages.
Doctors organized “kangaroo care” by allowing the parents to hold the baby and feed her. She has gained about 2 kilograms and overcome many complications, doctors said.
About 12 million premature babies are born in the world every year.
China welcomes some 1 million premature babies annually, second in the world behind India.
