Top ex-cop penalized by Party

ZHU Ying, former deputy director of Shanghai Public Security Bureau, has been penalized by the Communist Party for offences related to the criminal investigation of home appliance king Huang Guangyu, Xinhuanet.com reported today.

Zhu has been removed from his membership of Shanghai Disciplinary Committee but hasn't been transferred to judicial authorities for further investigation, Xinhua said.

A previous report by the Economic Observation Website said Zhu had been criminally detained over his involvement in Huang's case.

Xinhua denied the detention but confirmed Zhu was connected with Huang's case.

Zhu was in charge of economic investigation when he was deputy director of the city's public security bureau and was transferred to become deputy director of the Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau early this year.
