Tossed baby making a slow recovery in hospital
A ONE-YEAR-OLD boy who was tossed hard on the ground by his angry father on Sunday night may be recovering after medical staff suggested that he would be moved into an ordinary ward soon.
The boy suffered a skull fracture and had cerebral hemorrhage and may have some sequela in future, said Yang Bo, the chief surgeon of Renji Hospital.
"There is a possibility that the child may suffer from some sequela later but it should not be heavy," Yang said.
Bruises were still visible on the boy's forehead yesterday.
The incident happened on Sunday about 11pm when the father, surnamed Chen, from Hubei Province, came to the hospital to look for his wife. He had stabbed his wife with a kitchen knife earlier.
When he could not find her, he took out his anger on his son he was carrying and threw him hard on the ground about 5 meters away. Chen was detained by police.
Chen's anger was the result of a quarrel with his wife, Jiang Caihong, who refused to take care of their three children as she was working, according to Chen's mother.
