Tourism agencies from 106 countries, regions attend 2016 International Travel Mart to attract Chinese visitors
THE three-day 2016 China International Travel Mart kicked off today, gathering participants from 106 countries and regions to display their beautiful landscape, glamour, culture and customs at the Shanghai New International Expo Center in Pudong New Area.
Performances, lucky draws and tourism promotions are held at more than 2,500 stands at Asia's biggest tourism trade fair, which is hosted by China National Tourism Administration, Civil Aviation Administration of China and Shanghai municipal government.
New itineraries, routes and tour packages brought by tourist destinations and travel operators are featured at the event.
The Hawaii stand presents authentic Hawaiian Hula dance performances. Through VR technology, visitors will be able to experience the picturesque beauty of Oahu where people can go sailing and snorkeling and Kauai, the oldest island in Hawaii that features sharp rugged cliffs, fertile gardens and lush valleys.
"We invite Chinese tourists to explore more because there are many undiscovered places in Hawaii for them," said Randy Baldemor, chief operating officer of Hawaii Convention Center.
There is a Chinese surfing school in Hawaii where tourists are able to learn surfing with no language barrier.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) released 50 cross-border travel routes in Southeast Asia, ranging from two to 26 nights and catering to the demands of both tourists who have visited the region and first-time visitors.
They include a 13-day cruise trip from Singapore to Yangon, and 12-day health and nature journey in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Ipoh, to list some.
The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands has introduced dance performances and banana painting by native Carolinians at the event.
The islands offer tourists a tropical paradise with relaxing white sand beaches and rusted clesr blue waters.
"During the past year, China has become the islands' largest tourism industry source,” said Christopher Concepcion, managing director of Marianas Visitors Authority.
Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is promoting its culture exploration, folk customs and food trips at the event.
It boasts rich geographic diversity including mountain, gobi, lake, grassland and desert.
Yunnan Province which has over 700 square meters of display at the event is promoting rail tours by offering discounts on scenic spot admission and relevant tour packages as the Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway will open to traffic from November 30.
In addition, Yunnan tourism resources are also promoted at outlets of online travel operator Tongcheng with tourists invited to taste Yunnan specialties like pu’er tea and snacks and watch folk performances.
As the hot spring season has started with the weather getting chillier in Shanghai, online travel operator Lvmama has teamed up with more than a hundred hot spring resorts and hotels nationwide to recommend itineraries and tours that help beat the chill.
The travel peak of hot spring itineraries usually lasts over four months, Lvmama said.
The China National Travel Service Group Corporation also makes a debut at the event after it was reconstructed by merging two tourism companies, and its display covers 500 square meters.
