Town puts best foot forward for future
MORE than 3,000 runners from both home and abroad took part in a race at Luojing Town in Baoshan District yesterday.
The participants, including professional and amateur runners as well as local families, ran and jogged through 18-kilometer and 5-kilometer-long countryside paths, paddy fields and forest. The amateur and family runners were invited to enjoy the farmlands and fresh air in the town near the mouth of Yangtze River.
Along the paths, they were also invited to fish for hairy crabs, harvest grains, mill rice and experience other farm work.
The city’s rural heritage skills, such as paper cutting, straw sculpture and traditional painting, were showcased as well.
Luojing wants to bring in visitors to enjoy its farmland scenery and witness how much of the city’s agricultural produce is produced in the town, said Yang Xin, director of the township government.
Foot races have been run for the past two years.
