Toy gun buyer sentenced over deadly accident

A WOMAN was sentenced to a one-and-a-half year jail term with probation by Nanhui District People's Court for an unpremeditated offence that resulted in another person's death, a local newspaper reported today.

The accident, causing one death and three injuries, happened when a stationery shop owner surnamed Yang picked up her toy cap guns at a delivery company's temporary warehouse in Huinan Town of Nanhui District, according to a Wenhui Daily report.

She ordered a box of toy guns with caps from a company in neighboring Zhejiang Province in February 2008. Two days later the delivery company said the goods had arrived and she went to pick them up.

When a worker surnamed Shen moved the box, it exploded. Shen was killed. Yang, the delivery company owner surnamed Bao and another worker was injured in the blast, the report said.

The court ruled that Yang didn't tell the worker to pay attention to safety when moving the box, which made her partly liable for the accident, the report said.
