Traffic police on alert as city welcomes first snowfall of the year

TRAFFIC police in Shanghai will be out on the roads in full strength to ensure smooth flow of vehicles and ensure safety as the city experienced the first snowfall this winter.

There have no reports of unusual congestions so far except for traffic snarls at Hongxu Road, Dabaishu at the Inner Ring Road to Guangzhong Road, and Wuning Road to Hutai Road.

Police said they’re focusing on managing traffic at bridges, tunnels, elevated roads, underpasses, expressways and commercial centers such as Xujiahui and Wujiaochang.

Temporary measures such as speed limits will be implemented when necessary.

On the elevated roads, police are stepping up patrolling to inspect roads for ice.

The city’s road sanitation, rescue and maintenance squads are on standby.

Temperatures today will be between 0 to 5 degrees Celsius.
