Tram routes planned for suburban Qingpu District
Two tram routes are being planned for Shanghai’s Qingpu District.
The city government unveiled a primary plan for two tram routes. The north line is planned to stretch 5.15 kilometers and have 12 stops while the 9.15km south line could have 18 stations.
The electric powered trams look like a combination of bus and train. A four- carriage tram usually has capacity for about 350 people. They are slower thena Metro trains, but quieter and use less energy.
Shanghai approved six tram routes in Songjiang District earlier this year. Construction of the two lines is scheduled to start in October and both are expected to open in 2017, officials said at the time.
The city’s only tram route now in service is in Zhangjiang High Tech Park.
