Transformer blast cuts electricity to Pudong homes

THOUSANDS of people in at least four neighborhoods, two schools and a nursing home in Pudong District were left without electricity after a power substation exploded and caught fire.
The accident happened at 1:24pm today when heavy smoke was seen billowing from the power station on Xindexi Road in Chuansha Town.
People nearby reported hearing a loud noise before electricity went out in their homes. No injuries or deaths have been reported so far.
The blast destroyed the cooling network and the fire was quickly put out by firefighters. Investigators are looking into the cause of the explosion.
