Travel agencies set up 14 one-day tours

AUTHORITIES in Huangpu District are promoting 14 Shanghai one-day tours, organized by five leading travel agencies, to regulate the tourism market and crack down on unlicensed agencies.

The one-day packages are sold at five tourist information centers — in the Bund, Yuyuan Garden, Jiujiang Road, Jinling Road and Nanjing Road.

The routes cover themed tours and sightseeing double-decker bus tours. The former will take tourists to landmark scenic spots such as the Bund, Wukang Road and Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower as well as to see classic architecture. Tourists will also be able to taste local delicacies.

The bus tour will stop at major scenic spots in the city, and tourists will be able to alight at any stops that take their fancy.

The travel agencies involved are Shanghai Spring Tours, Shanghai Jinjiang Travel, Shanghai UTour International Travel Service, Shanghai Haohaozhilu International Travel Service and Shanghai Shuilutong International Travel Service.

Officials with the Huangpu Tourism Administration said that currently there is a lack of one-day tour packages of Shanghai and many are not designed properly. Because tourists often need to make reservations, an opportunity exists for unlicensed travel agencies to step in, especially around the Bund, Yuyuan Garden and Nanjing Road.

The 14 new packages sold at tourist information centers offer an instant service, helping to deter unlicensed operators, the officials said.
