Travel agencies target high-end market with luxurious round-the-world trips

Local travel agencies are exploring the high-end market with an 80-day luxurious round-the-world trip later this month.

The China High-end Tourism Association, comprising of about 100 travel agencies both at home and abroad, was set up in Shanghai recently. Members are being encouraged to design high-end tailor-made trips for tourists.

The 80-day trip will take visitors to 22 countries and regions in five continents including the South and North Pole. Tourists will be able to view the dreamlike northern light inside the famous glass igloos in Finland, explore the wild Amazon Rain Forest, take a private helicopter overlooking the mysterious Nazca Lines and join in the grand Brazilian carnival.

The trip is priced at 1.38 million yuan and reservations will be taken from April 25. It is operated by HHtravel, an agency targeting high-end travelers of online tour operator Ctrip.

The Shanghai China Travel International Ltd is also launching high-end exploration trips to the South and North Pole, while Sparkle Tour, a travel agency under China Youth Travel Service, is also offering high-end trips to South Pacific and Africa.

Compared to traditional tour groups, the high-end tours only comprise of two to three people with a tour guide, and involve trips to less visited areas, private jet journey and luxury hotels and cuisines.

High-end and tailor-made trips are gaining in popularity among those who keen on quality travel but don't have time to design their trips, experts said.
