Trivial issue gets nasty as 5 stabbed

A 64-YEAR-OLD man stabbed five men who had earlier beaten him up and slapped his wife at their apartment in downtown Jing'an Villa during lunch time yesterday.
The man, surnamed Lu, has been held by police.
The five victims have been sent to hospitals.
Witnesses said one of the victims had deep cuts in the stomach. The other four had knife wounds on their arms, chests and backs.
The elderly man had injuries on his lips and his wife had a red swelling on the face when they came out of the apartment about 11am, said witness Hou Jiyong.
"When I opened the door, two middle-aged men were lying in blood just in front of me," said a 58-year-old man who lives in an apartment next to Lu. "One of them was holding a fruit knife on the ground, with the tip of the knife against the third guy who was standing close by," the man said.
"I immediately shut the door as I was so scared that I did not even know who stabbed whom," said the man.
Traces of blood were seen on the ground, stretching almost 10 meters.
Neighbors said the five men were relatives and friends of another family living on the second floor above Lu's apartment.
An elderly woman with the family had an argument with Lu yesterday over some trivial matter and broke her leg. She brought the men to reason with Lu over the incident, said the neighbors.
But Hou said the five men looked like professional hatchet men as they sat at the door calmly even after getting stabbed and sent messages on their cell phones while waiting for the ambulance.
Hou said the victims told police they only tried to reason with the elderly man and did not beat anyone, while the couple said they were beaten up by the five visitors.
Hou said the five men had physical contact with Lu, who grabbed a fruit knife after they slapped his wife.
Neighbors said the two families frequently quarreled over trivial matters.
