Truck company may lose license after 3 fatal accidents
A dump truck company's license will be revoked after its latest fatal acccident, when one of its trucks on Wednesday hit an electric bicycle, killing two people and injuring three others, authorities said today.
The Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau said Shanghai Huhuan Waste Cleaning Services Co's trucks had caused three fatal accidents, in which five people had been killed.
The latest occurred about 9:15am Wednesday when the company's truck turned right from Jusheng Road onto Bao'an Road in Baoshan District and smashed into the electric bicycle, which was carrying five family members on their way to get a baby vaccinated.
A 28-year-old woman and her 11-month-old boy, whom she was holding in her arms, were killed after the truck ran over them and dragged them several meters before stopping.
The truck was carrying a full load, officials said.
The woman's husband surnamed Mu, who was injured in the accident, said the family was stopping for a red light when the dump truck hit them.
Both Mu's daughter and nephew were unconscious after the accident, but were out of danger later on Wednesday, doctors said.
Officials said they had launched a criminal investigation into the company after the latest accident.
