Two found dead after gas leak in apartment

TWO people died and another is seriously ill after a gas leak in an apartment in Zhabei District yesterday, police said.
The woman survivor was in critical condition last night. The cause of the leak was unclear and still under investigation, police said.
The accident happened about 3:30pm in an apartment in Lane 772 on Xizang Road N. yesterday. A strong smell of gas alerted neighbors who banged on the door of the apartment on the third floor of Building No. 7. When there was no answer, they called the police.
A middle-aged couple and the man's mother-in-law were found lying on the floor.
The man and his mother-in-law were pronounced dead after the ambulance arrived and the other woman was taken to a nearby hospital.
Doctors said the woman was being treated for gas poisoning in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. The woman, who has not been identified, was still unconscious last night.
Neighbors said the family moved into the apartment only last month.
