Two injured in second school knife fight
TWO middle school students injured each other with a knife in a fight in the playground of a suburban school yesterday, police said, the second such incident at a school in the past two days.
The boys, one injured in the chest and the other in the arm, were taken to hospital where they were in a stable condition last night, police said.
"The cause of the fight is unclear and still under investigation," said police officer Chen Cheng.
The incident happened about 5:30pm yesterday at the Qiliang Middle School at 62 Qiliang Road of Jiading District, police said.
"No one knows what had happened but the two had set the time and place to fight on the playground," Chen said.
Chen said that during the fight the older student, a 16-year-old surnamed Tang, took out a knife and cut the other boy, a 14-year-old who has not been named, on the chest but the two later struggled for the knife and Tang was also cut in the arm.
"Tang carried the knife to school from home," Chen said. Tang is in the ninth grade and the other student is in the eighth, police said.
It was the second incidence of school violence in the past two days. On Tuesday, a 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death in a fight with a schoolmate in a middle school in the Pudong New Area.
The suspect, in the same grade as the victim, is said to have stabbed the victim twice in the back, causing massive loss of blood.
What caused the fight has not been revealed but classmates said it may have been triggered by a quarrel on the Internet the previous evening.
