Two killed in building site waste
TWO people died in Shanghai yesterday when construction waste they were illegally sifting through collapsed and buried them, police reported.
The victims were believed to be trying to retrieve iron bars from the waste when the mass shifted and fell on them.
Shanghai police investigated when they received a report at 8:09am yesterday, saying that a group of construction site raiders had illegally entered the area near Jungong Road, Yangpu District.
The raiders have been identified as being from groups of people hunting for scrap iron in the streets of Shanghai to eke out an existence.
A third member of the group was injured and rushed to hospital but others were unharmed. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
