Two killed in separate weekend car accidents

TWO separate car accidents on the weekend left two people dead and one boy slightly injured, doctors said yesterday.

A mother and son from Jiangxi Province were at their street-side food stall on Saturday night when a car crashed into them after it had collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Minxing Road and Baotou Road in Yangpu District.

The mother, surnamed Wu, suffered a head injury and was sent to Changhai Hospital. Wu, 42, was pronounced dead yesterday, doctors said. Her son, surnamed Zheng, only suffered minor injuries.

Zheng said the accident happened so fast.

"My mother asked me to buy some ice cream," Zheng said. "As soon as I left the stall, a car ran into us."

Earlier, on Saturday afternoon, a man riding a scooter was killed after he collided with a car in Jing'an District.

The car was turning left from Beijing Road W. to Changde Road while the scooter was running a red light at high speed.
