Typhoon alert as new semester starts
Typhoon Maysak is set to bring gales and rains to the city tomorrow, the first day of the new semester.
Maysak, the ninth typhoon of the year which formed near the Philippines on Friday, is moving northwest.
Its maximum wind force has reached 136.8 kilometers per hours and is increasing.
According to the National Meteorological Center, it is likely to become the city’s first super typhoon this year with a wind force of 184kph to 201kph this afternoon.
Thunder storms are expected tomorrow and on Wednesday but the rest of the week should be clear.
Residents, especially students returning to school, should watch out for falling objects, such as flowerpots, window glass and hoardings, and keep away from pond water, which is electro-conductive.
Temperatures will range from 30 degrees Celsius to 33 degrees. Students should take care to use skin protection to avoid sunburn.
Although it is rare that there were no typhoons in July this year, a total of seven typhoons have formed this month, more than 1.27 year on year.
