Typhoon set to cloud ‘crystal sky’
A “CRYSTAL sky” was seen over the city on Sunday and yesterday. But the phenomenon will be cut short by Typhoon Maysak today.
A blue sky with white clouds and good air quality is dubbed a “crystal sky” by city residents.
But Maysak is expected to bring black clouds, gale-force winds and lightning with heavy rain today and tomorrow.
Maysak became a violent typhoon on Monday night with a maximum wind force of 162 kilometers per hour that is still increasing, the city’s meteorological bureau warned yesterday.
It is likely to be the first super typhoon today with a wind force of 220kph this year but it will revert to a violent typhoon tomorrow when it reaches the same latitude as Shanghai, the bureau announced.
It will not directly affect the city, where the maximum wind force will be between 39kph and 49kph, and which will gradually reduce as Maysak moves on.
Although thunder showers will be seen on the first two days of September, the rest of the week will be clear. Temperatures will reach 33 degrees Celsius and around 30 degrees later in this week.
Today is the first day of the new semester and students are being advised to be aware of wet and slippery ground and to watch out for items that may be blown down in the wind, such as flowerpots, window glass and advertising boards.
They should also leave home early for school because there may be traffic jams on rainy days during morning and evening peak hours.
