US baby formula under scrutiny

TWO baby formula products sold in Shanghai are being tested by the nation's quality authority after 15 US brands of baby formula were reported to be contaminated with a chemical used in rocket fuel.
The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine began testing the Bright Beginnings and Parents' Choice baby formulas on Monday. The results will be announced in a few days, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.
Last month the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported it had found 15 brands of powdered infant formula had been contaminated with perchlorate, a component of rocket fuel.
Bright Beginnings and Parent's Choice, both imported products, are the only baby formulas sold in Shanghai that use US milk.
But they were not among the 15 brands on the US blacklist, the Shanghai Morning Post report quoted workers with the formulas' sales agent as saying.
