Unapproved use of cultural centers punished by fines
ANYONE occupying or taking local residents' community cultural facilities for unapproved uses will be fined up to 30,000 yuan (US$4,815) according to a new law to take effect in April next year.
The law, approved yesterday by city lawmakers, stipulates that facilities including activity centers must be open to the public for at least 56 hours a week. They should provide a wide range of free cultural performances and activities, according to the law.
Meanwhile, the activities should also avoid bothering others. Residents can report to local authorities if the music in the facilities is too loud, the lawmakers said.
Officers with local cultural authorities will confiscate all the earnings from anyone illegally occupying the facilities as well as fining and punishing the people in charge of the facilities, according to the law.
