Under arrest for murder
A MAN suspected of killing his girlfriend, and who turned himself in earlier this month, has been arrested for murder, prosecutors said yesterday.
Lin Xiafu, 54, is an ex-convict who had killed his first girlfriend and attempted to murder his second, said the Huangpu District Prosecutors' Office.
His third girlfriend, surnamed Wang, was killed on August 8 after the two had an argument. Police determined after investigation that Wang had been strangled by Lin.
Lin told police that Wang had a new boyfriend and seldom came back home. The two started to live together last year, he said.
Accompanied by his younger brother, Lin walked into a police station on August 11. Wang's body was later found in Lin's residence.
Lin said he had thought about committing suicide but was persuaded to turn himself in by his brother.
Prosecutors said Lin had assaulted his first girlfriend and caused her death in 1983. Lin was given a suspended death sentence but later released on parole for medical reasons.
However, Lin then attempted to kill his second girlfriend and was jailed for 16 years for attempted murder. He was released in 2006.
