Undone bridge criticized
SOME residents in Pudong are complaining that a bridge project is still unfinished six years after construction started and that it's creating environmental problems.
The site has become littered with trash, and city buses are forced to reduce service. The Zhaojiagou Bridge project is located on Dongbo Road. The planned 682-meter-long bridge is supposed to become the biggest span across local inland rivers and creeks, excluding the Huangpu River, when it's finished.
Residents said construction was on and off from 2005 until it was suspended in 2009. Most resident concerns center on the inconvenience caused by the lengthy construction, which has altered and eliminated some bus services.
The construction company in charge of the project said the construction is on hold to make way for building of a station for Metro Line 12. But the company did not say when it will complete the bridge.
