Unlicensed plastic surgeon detained after woman commits suicide

Pudong New Area police detained an unlicensed plastic surgeon after a woman committed suicide over a botched eye-lid procedure, xinmin.cn reported today.
The 29-year-old woman jumped from a building in Luchaogang area of Pudong because she was upset with the outcome of eyelid surgery, which was performed by an unlicensed surgeon surnamed Zhou, the report said.
The procedure was done in the woman’s home on February 23, according to the website. It did not say when the woman committed suicide.
The woman had requested compensation or corrective surgery, but Zhou refused, saying the surgery was a success and that t just needed time to recover, the report said.
Police later found that Zhou was doing a variety of procedures without a license including eyelid and chin surgery, as well as nose re-shaping in residential communities in Baoshan District with her husband, the report said.
Zhou reportedly told police that they performed such surgeries in the homes of their clients every month.
The report added that Zhou had made more than 200,000 yuan (US$32,400) illegally from such procedures.
