Video shows a foreigner helping stabbed woman
A foreign passenger who calmly provided first-aid to a woman who was stabbed by his deranged son at the Pudong International Airport on March 31 has impressed many people after a video made by a witness circulated on the Internet.
The woman surnamed Gu said she wanted to find out this foreigner and thank him for his help. Gu has left the intensive care unit and is recovering in an ordinary ward at the Pudong People's Hospital.
She remembered that after she was stabbed by her son surnamed Wang, a foreigner calmly took off her scarf and pressed on the wound to stanch bleeding.
The Caucasian man seemed to be a tourist, wearing an orange red jacket, grey pants and a backpack. He kept pressing the scarf on Gu's wound until the medical team came.
"We later tried to find this foreigner but failed," Gu said.
Her 25-year-old son is being held by police for mayhem and is suspected of having a mental problem. A psychiatric test has been arranged for him, police said yesterday. The motivation of his attack is still unclear.
She said her son surnamed Wang had been stressed-out after three years of study in Japan and she hoped he could be cured.
"He has been a good boy and we are always close to each other," Gu told the Xinmin Evening News yesterday. "I don't blame him."
The attack happened around 9pm on March 31 soon after Wang walked out of the luggage claim area. Witnesses said Wang and Gu started a quarrel over Japan's high tuition costs and Wang suddenly pulled a knife from his luggage and stabbed Gu.
Gu said her son behaved weird recently and always said someone was chasing after him. "On March 29 I talked with him on the phone and he said someone was trying to kill him and then he started laughing," Gu said. "Afterwards, he couldn't remember he had laughed."
