Visitor birthday gifts on Eritrea Pavilion Day
ERITREA celebrated its Pavilion Day with three visitors whose birthday fell on the same day yesterday. The visitors enjoyed cake in the Africa Joint Pavilion and received gifts from the Eritrea government.
The three, Zhang Manxia, 42, Meng Qinggang, 38, and Lu Sheng'er, 4, were the first to apply to participate in the celebration.
On the pavilion's central stage, Askalu Menkerios, Eritrea's Ministry of Tourism director, gave the birthday celebrants a typical African style picture frame, while the pavilion gave them post cards, badges and posters. African singers sang "Happy Birthday" to them.
"We wish them all the best now and in their future life," said Menkerios.
Among the lucky three, Meng is a big Expo fan.
Before yesterday, he had been to the Expo site several times and visited around 30 pavilions.
Eritrea received a 5-meter long scroll on which Chinese people had written good wishes to Eritreans. Pavilion officials said they made similar scrolls, in ancient Chinese style, for all 43 exhibitors in the pavilion. Displays featured grass woven crafts and costumes, and introduced the dromedary, the national treasure animal.
