Warmer temperatures, pleasant weather during upcoming holiday

Locals could expect to enjoy warmer temperatures during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday with highest temperatures reaching 17 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and Thursday next week, forecasters said.

The current round of chill will last through this Sunday, the Chinese New Year Eve, and Shanghai is set to see a warm up starting Monday with the high bouncing back to up 10 degrees.

Between Friday and Sunday this week, there will be sunny skies with lows ranging from minus 1 to 1 degree and highs from 6 to 8 degrees. The fair weather with good sunshine will continue into the first three days of next week and raise the mercury to 17 degrees on Wednesday.

In this warming trend, next Monday will have a low of 3 degrees and a high of 11. Tuesday the low will climb to 5 degrees when the high rise to 15. Both the low and the high will increase by 2 degrees on Wednesday.

Due to the confrontation of cold and warm airs, Thursday it will start to dump some showers but the temperature will not be affected much by the rain. The high will remain at 17 with the low reaching 11 on Thursday.

The rainy weather will exist in the two following days and push the mercury down to single digits on next Saturday. Friday the mercury will dip a bit and fluctuate between 10 and 14 degrees. And for Saturday, the high will fall to 9 degrees with a low of only 5 degrees when another cold front comes.

This year's first solar term Lichun, or spring begins, falls on today, signifying the beginning of spring, when eastern winds begin to melt ice and hibernating insects wake up.
