Wedding bells are ringing

YOU can be a guest at a very special wedding if you visit the Expo in September.

That's when a mass wedding for couples from all China's ethnic groups is to be held at the China Pavilion.

Wenchuan in Sichuan Province and Yushu in Qinghai Province, which have both suffered from massive earthquakes, will also be sending a couple each to take part in the wedding, organizers said.

At the wedding, the couples will wear their ethnic group's traditional costumes and perform their ancient style of wedding ceremony.

"The event is expected to display the traditional wedding customs of ethnic minorities," said Han Bo, an official with the event's organizing committee. "We also expect that all ethnic groups will become more united through the event."

In addition, there's to be an exhibition displaying traditional Chinese wedding costumes and related material at the Shanghai Folk Museum near the Expo site.
