Wife attacks husband's mistress, drinks poison

AN angry wife stabbed a mistress in love with her husband, forcing her to jump off the third floor, and then tried to commit suicide by drinking pesticide yesterday morning in the suburban Jiading District, police said.
Both women were sent to a nearby hospital, police said. The wife surnamed Shen was in a coma after she was poisoned by the pesticide, while the mistress surnamed Li was in critical condition and unconscious after suffering several stab wounds and falling from the third floor.
Police said Shen's husband confirmed the relationships among the three.
The accident occurred at Li's apartment in a residential building of Lane 677 on Huajiangzhi Road in the district's Jiangqiao area about 10:30am when residents said they heard noises of fierce quarrels from a room on the third floor. Minutes later Li jumped off the balcony to the ground with blood all over her.
Police said they were called at 10:54am and found Li unconscious after they came to the residential area. Cuts were found on Li's face and arms. Officers then found Shen falling on the floor inside the apartment with white foam in her mouth. The two were rushed to the hospital.
"The wife was coming after the mistress with knife and pesticide," said Lu Yuhua, a police spokesman. "According to the preliminary investigation, we believe the latter had no way out and jumped off the building."
Li is younger than Shen and was one of the tenants of the apartment, police said. It was unclear whether there were other people in the apartment when Shen confronted Li.
