Woman, 19, held for throwing out baby

A 19-year-old woman who reportedly threw her newborn baby to death from the 12th floor of an apartment has been detained, police said yesterday.
The unmarried woman, surnamed Zhou, gave birth to the baby in a toilet. She then threw the baby out of the window of her apartment on Xinzhong Street in Songjiang District. The baby girl was found lying on a window ledge of the fourth floor of the building on June 25 by local residents. Witness said the baby was still carrying the umbilical cord with blood still on it. Zhou told police she found out that she was pregnant after she had split with her boyfriend. She did not want an abortion nor inform her ex-boyfriend.
