Woman held after heroin floors her

A woman was detained for using illegal drugs after she passed out at the Shanghai South Railway Station on Sunday, police said yesterday.

The woman, surnamed Liu, carried a bag of heroin, said police. Authorities were alerted after she was seen lying on the floor in a waiting lounge at the station at noon on Sunday.

Officer Sun Honghu, the first to reach her, helped the woman and found medical workers. "I saw several bruises on her wrist and arm," Sun said.

The woman told police she had just injected the drug in the waiting lounge. The overdose soon rendered her unconscious, said police, who found a small bag of heroin in her luggage.

The woman had a ticket to southwest China's Guizhou Province, police said. Her physical condition was fine, they said.

Meanwhile, police said a man was arrested for carrying drugs on a train last Thursday from Shanghai to neighboring Suzhou. The 37-year-old man, surnamed Chen, had 10.35 grams of heroin, police said.
