Woman jailed over credit card fraud


A WOMAN was jailed for six years and fined 50,000 yuan (US$7,323) after running up a credit card bill of more than 300,000 yuan in her daughter's name.

The woman surnamed Wang was doing odds jobs at a foreign company, and bought herself luxury clothes and accessories to enhance her image among colleagues, Hongkou District People's Court heard, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

Because she earned a meager income, she applied for several credit cards. But when she failed to repay the money, she used her daughter's identification to apply for more cards and withdrew more than 300,000 yuan, the court heard.

When the banks pressed her for repayment, she surrendered herself to police.
