Woman who lied about diamond theft detained in Pudong

A 20-year-old woman has been held under administrative detention for making a false report to police, claiming her 20-million-yuan worth diamond rings were stolen, police in the Pudong New Area said.

The woman told police that she lied because she wanted to pose as a wealthy lady to keep her rich but flirtatious husband.

The couple went to a police station on February 11 and said someone stole their four diamond rings, worth some 20 million yuan, stored in a safety box in their house. But after a probe, officers found out thst the woman was lying. The woman later admitted that the rings, all fake ones she bought for 3,100 yuan, was taken by her which she later threw into a pond.

She said that when she met her husband, the man had several girlfriends and she had to pretend to be a rich person to attract him. Earlier after her husband attempted to sell her rings for money to buy a house, she feared her lies would be detected and decided to throw the rings away.
