Woman's foot trapped in Metro train crush
A WOMAN'S foot got trapped after she fell in the crush to get off a train at Shaanxi Road S. station on Metro Line 1, during rush hour yesterday morning.
Her foot was caught in the gap between the train and platform, leaving her with scratches, but no serious injuries, the Metro operator said.
A surveillance camera showed the young woman waiting to leave the train, but once the doors opened she fell down under the pressure of passengers behind her.
Staff rushed to help and the train was delayed for several minutes, according to station officials.
The woman finally freed herself, with the help of staff and a foreigner wearing a dark blue T-shirt and with blonde hair, a picture uploaded by witnesses on t.xinmin.cn appeared to show.
Witness said the young woman then promptly left without accusing anyone, as she was rushing to work.
"When her foot was caught, the girl shouted really loudly," said a microblogger using the name "Happy Fireworks."
"Passengers around her watched coldly until a foreigner came to her aid," the microblogger added.
Meanwhile, another incident occurred about 8:10am at Nanjing Road E. station on Metro Line 2.
The Metro operator said some passengers pushed their way onto a packed train, preventing the automatic doors from closing and causing them to malfunction.
Passengers were taken off the train, which was removed for repairs.
Metro officials said the volume of passengers continues to increase. On Monday, more than 6.5 million passengers took the underground.
