World Cup fever takes over for the next month
SOCCER fans will be able to enjoy the World Cup, which starts tomorrow, at the Expo.
Many venues, including restaurants, will be showing the games the day after since most of the matches take place late at night or early in the morning local time.
The South Africa Pavilion is negotiating with the Expo organizer to extend its opening hours in order to show the games live. But no other details have been given.
South Africa is the host nation of the tournament and its Expo pavilion has already set up a 3D TV screen for the soccer tournament.
The pavilion will also host an event to celebrate the World Cup at about 6pm tomorrow. Late tomorrow night, the tournament will begin with South Africa playing Mexico in Johannesburg.
The pavilion will also give away souvenir badges to 10,000 visitors every day.
Meanwhile, a 2010 FIFA World Cup store is expected to open tomorrow on Floor B2 at the north end of the Expo Boulevard.
Up to 90 World Cup products are available, according to the commercial department of the Expo Bureau.
The World Cup souvenirs will also be available in some of the UBPA pavilions, according to the authorities.
Many restaurants will add French fries, chicken wings and beer to their menus to attract World Cup fans.
Also, many soccer legends will come to the Expo after the World Cup, according to the European Union Pavilion.
Former European superstars such as Franz Beckenbauer of Germany, Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane of France and Luis Figo of Portugal are expected to visit Shanghai this September.
