World stage for Chinese progams
THE Shanghai Media Group, one of the country's largest media corporations, has signed a partnership agreement with the Singapore-based My China Channel to bring a number of quality Chinese projects onto the world stage.
The signing took place at the Asia Media Festival in Singapore last week.
Wings Media, the distribution arm of SMG, signed a co-production contract with My China Channel to produce two infotainment programs titled "China Trend" and "Foreigners Living in China" and distribute them to the global market.
"China Trend" consists of 26 episodes in which latest news in lifestyle, fashion, entertainment and new trends in China will be presented.
"Foreigners Living in China" is a program that speaks of the journey and experiences of expatriates living and working in China. It also discusses the various cultural gaps, language barriers and ultimately how these foreigners overcome them and make themselves at home in China.
A production team from SMG's International Channel Shanghai will be working together with producers from the Singapore channel with the aim of enhancing the show's international flavor. The program is due to be broadcast on ICS next year.
"From TV and film production to manpower and music, Singapore and China media companies have enjoyed close collaboration," said Christopher Chia, chief executive officer of Singapore's Media Development Authority.
"The latest collaboration between My China Channel and Shanghai Media Group is a good indication of the dynamism of the collaboration between Singapore and Chinese media companies in the growing and dynamic new Asia media landscape. We look forward to more activities in this area."
Wings Media and My China Channel have also penned another memo of understanding to jointly aggregate and distribute the best of Chinese drama and movies to established television networks around Asia.
"We feel that the time is right for China-made content to cross borders and capture international viewers. My China Channel is a valuable partner and they have been an advocate of quality China content in the global market," Yang Wenhong, general manager of Wings Media, said.
"We hope to work on even more similar initiatives with them in the future."
